A new variant of a mass-mailing worm W32.Blackmal.E at mm (aka
Win32/MyWife.E at mm) was discovered recently and has increased in prevalence
in the last two weeks. To address this issue, Fixlet messages have been
published in the "Client Manager for Anti-Virus" Fixlet site to help detect
and remove variants of the worm using Symantec's W32.Blackmal removal tool.
For more information about the worm from Symantec and McAfee, see these

Microsoft released a security advisory on January 30th, 2006 to warn
customers of the existence and impact of the worm. In particular, the
security advisory points out that the worm is designed to corrupt a number
of common document format files on the third day of every month, starting
February 3rd, 2006. The Microsoft advisory is available here:

We hope these content items will help affected customers address this issue.
