[BESAdmin-Announcements] Patches for RHEL: RHSM Download Plug-in and RHSM Download Cacher updated

[Announcements for BES Administrators]

The RHSM Download Plug-in tool and RHSM Download Cacher have been updated
with the following enhancements:


RHSM Download Plug-in 1.0.1.0

The RHSM download plug-in can now use packages that are cached by the RHSM
download cacher’s download_dir (which is referred to as localCache in the
plugin.ini) and get packages from the Internet at the same time.

Previously, the RHSMPlugin was used in the BES Server in either of the
following scenarios:

- fully air-gapped using RHSMDownloadCacher or

- internet-enabled without using RHSMDownloadCacher.

This enhancement can benefit users who want an offline cache of the
packages to save time that downloading the packages take. Saving one
repository can take up more than 50GB of space.



RHSM Download Cacher 1.0.1.0

The RHSM download cacher can now download packages as sha1 files instead of
RPM.

Previously, when the “buildRepo –key server-7-x86_64” is used with
RHSMDownloadCacher, the Red Hat Repo “server-7-x86_64” structure is
mirrored offline. This means that the packages might be duplicated if they
are found in multiple repositories (keys).

Using the –sha1_download_dir will download all packages from all repos
(keys) as files with a sha1 filename into a single flat directory. Only the
packages will be stored in the sha1_download_dir. Each repository's
metadata will still be stored in the download_dir and will still maintain
the Red Hat Repository directory structure.



Note: When using –sha1_download_dir, consider the size limit of the sha1
file folder. The suggested size is the current BES Server’s sha1 folder
size plus a minimum of 60GB per repository. The 60GB per repository size
might increase over time.

Download Plug-ins dashboard.
