We’re pleased to announce the general availability of DSS SAM 1.2 and Software Catalog 2010-02. In addition to quality improvements, performance improvements, and an updated software catalog, this release introduces two new features:

1) User-defined Contract Types: DSS SAM 1.2 allows users to select the BigFix analysis property to be used as the license unit for a contract. For example, you can create processor-based license compliance reports by selecting the BigFix analysis property “Number of processors” for the license unit in a contract.

2) User-defined Application Usage Properties: DSS SAM 1.2 allows users to select additional BigFix analysis properties that carry application usage information. This release continues to include the default application usage data for Windows applications, but users may now add additional sources of application usage statistics. For example, users may now select analysis properties that carry usage data for Mac, UNIX, and Linux applications in addition to Windows applications.

DSS SAM 1.2 automatically upgrades your server to the latest Software Catalog (leaving your custom entries in-tact), but if you would like to upgrade only the catalog component of pre-1.2 installs, you may do so by downloading and installing just the Software Catalog 2010-02.

The DSS SAM version 1.2 installer contains a full installation of the web application and database component of the product — an installation of a previous version of DSS SAM is not a pre-requisite. However, if a previous version of DSS SAM is already installed in your environment, you may upgrade to version 1.2 without uninstalling the previous version. To do this, download DSS SAM 1.2 and run the installer on the computer where DSS SAM is currently running, ensuring that the DSS SAM database server is running and accessible. The installer will automatically detect DSS SAM in your environment and replace it with version 1.2 in the same environment without affecting your application data or configurations.

All currently-licensed DSS SAM customers may now download the update and all associated product documentation using the same URL they received from BigFix Licensing when they purchased the product.
