We’re pleased to announce the general availability of DSS SAM 1.1, the wildly popular asset and software license management tool from BigFix! If you have not yet done so, please check out a demo or try an eval of this awesome new product. DSS SAM leverages the unmatched accuracy and depth of asset data available with BigFix. Enterprises use DSS SAM to analyze software and hardware inventory and compare this inventory to software license purchase records to prevent piracy, over purchasing, and shelfware. DSS SAM can also help mitigate issues by quickly finding incorrectly configured systems and outdated or disallowed software. It’s an extremely user-friendly and efficient product with the potential to radically reduce the number of hours spent on inventory and license true-up activities.

With the release of DSS SAM 1.1, currently-licensed DSS SAM customers should now download the update and all associated product documentation using the same URL you received from BigFix Licensing when you purchased the product.

Version 1.1 Enhancements
DSS SAM 1.1 includes significant, new features based on customer guidance and our desire to continue delivering great products that help solve critical IT and business problems:
1) Initial software inventory support for Mac, Unix, and Linux, in addition to the support for Windows already available. This allows customers to start building non-Windows software identification and inventory.
2) Contract Import Wizard, facilitating the import of license and financial information into DSS SAM for license compliance reporting.
3) Saved Reports, allowing users to save important and frequently used views for one click access to common reports.
4) New Software Catalog editing workflows, assisting with the augmentation of the software identification signatures to handle customer-specific installations.
5) Elimination of the hidden/unblessed state for Catalog items, providing thousands of additional out-of-the-box software recognition possibilities beyond the initial 1.0 release.
6) Added support for SQL Server 2008, SQL Server 2005 Express, and SQL Server 2008 Express. 
7) Critical bug fixes.
8) Performance enhancements.

All deployments of DSS SAM 1.0, 1.0.1, and 1.0.2 are encouraged to upgrade to 1.1 to take full advantage of the latest asset and software license management capabilities of the product.

The DSS SAM version 1.1 installer contains a full installation of the web application and database component of the product — an installation of a previous version of DSS SAM is not a pre-requisite. However, if a previous version of DSS SAM is already installed in your environment, you may upgrade to version 1.1 without uninstalling the previous version. To do this, download DSS SAM 1.1 and run the installer on the computer where DSS SAM is currently running, ensuring that the DSS SAM database server is running and accessible. The installer will automatically detect DSS SAM in your environment and replace it with version 1.1 in the same environment without affecting your application data or configurations. Upon successful installation, log in to the DSS SAM web application and confirm the build number in the lower right corner – it should read “Version 1.1.0.230” for DSS SAM 1.1.
